Julia Schwarzbach is a dancer, choreographer and teacher based in Salzburg. She has worked with internationally renowned choreographers such as Sasha Waltz, Mia Lawrence, Gill Clark, Zoe Knights and LaborGras in Berlin, London, Zürich and Salzburg. Since 2011 she is an active member of tanz_house, a platform of choreographers in Salzburg. Besides the continuous presentation of her own work Julia has co-curated the annual festival with artists Helene Weinzierl and Editta Braun. For several years she has co-organised the Performancetage festival with Helene Weinzierl. In the frame of the Salzburg International Summer Academy of Fine Arts Julia has worked as assistant for the performance artist Tania Bruguera. She teaches at institutions like Mozarteum Salzburg (Orff-Institut for music and dance teaching, Thomas-Bernhard-Institut for acting and directing), ZHdK Zürich (theater pedagogics), Festspielhaus St.Pölten (dance 60+) and devises dance and choreography workshops a.o. at Musischen Gymnasium Salzburg and for the youth compagnie of BE Festival Birmingham. For Toihaus Theater Salzburg she develops and performs music and dance productions for the youngest and tours them internationally.For Sommerszene festival and SEAD Salzburg she moderates diverse performance formats, runs artists talks and is active in the communication of art programmes. In 2013 she initiated the performance collective under construction, in 2015 she was artists-in-residency at Impulstanz Festival Vienna, and from 2016-2020 part of the European network apap-Performing Europe 2020, which was initiated by SZENE Salzburg. In 2016 she received the scholarship for performing arts by Land Salzburg. Julia studied contemporary dance at SEAD Salzburg and a Masters in `Performance and Creative Research` at Roehampton University London.
